Video game developer Colossal Order and publisher Paradox Interactive are announcing that they are working on an expansion for Cities: Skylines called After Dark, which is designed to introduce a range of new features to the city builder and a complete day and night cycle.

Gamers will also be able to enjoy more specialized areas and options to create a booming nightlife for their cities.

The day and night cycle will be introduced to Cities: Skylines via a patch that will be free to all those who have the game and it will also introduce a number of other tweaks to the core mechanics.

Paradox has not talked about the price of the After Dark expansion or about a launch date.

Bars, casinos and nightclubs are all being introduced to the title, adding more ways for commercial areas to make money, although some important problems can also be associated with them.

It seems that traffic in the new nightlife areas will be harder to deal with and will change familiar patterns that are established during the day.

Gamers can add taxi service options to ease the pressure on public transportation, and there are also bicycle options for those gamers who want to go green.

After Dark also adds commercial beach properties

The expansion will introduce marines, tours, beach bars and upscale restaurants to the waterfront, giving gamers a way to create areas where their citizens can relax and adding more options for cities who face the sea.

Crime will also be reworked in After Dark, with a new cycle that takes into account the shady activities that take place at night in entertainment areas.

Jails are also coming to Cities: Skylines, with the police now actually travelling to the place where a crime is committed to pick up the individual responsible for it and take him to a prison.

Traffic once again becomes important because police forces need to actually reach the spot where criminal activity is happening.

Other areas of the city builder will be slightly modified in the coming After Dark and it seems that Colossal Order is also adding more options for modding, which means the player community has more ways to add extra content to the title.
