Today, June 23, 2016, the leader of the Linux Mint project, Clement Lefebvre, has had the great pleasure of announcing the release and general availability of the Cinnamon 3.0.6 desktop environment.

Cinnamon 3.0.6 is the sixth maintenance release in the stable Cinnamon 3.0 series of the acclaimed desktop environment used by default on the Linux Mint operating system, but also available for numerous other popular GNU/Linux distributions, including Ubuntu, Arch Linux, Fedora, Debian, and others.

According to the internal changelog, attached at the end of the article for reference, Cinnamon 3.0.6 brings many improvements. Among the most important ones, we can mention the addition of a generic Bluetooth icon in the control panel, as well as the inversion of the motion-threshold setting widget in the Touchpad panel.

The built-in Cinnamon recorder has received a couple of fixes as well, and it will no longer crash when started. Moreover, it looks like the recorder can now avoid the panel when drawing the recording indicators. "This was removed during some panel work a while back and never restored. Always draw them on the primary monitor now," says Michael Webster.

On-screen keyboard and Network applet improvements

Other interesting changes that have landed in Cinnamon 3.0.6 are an option to change activation behavior for the on-screen keyboard, the ability to load icon themes even if the set is not readable, and support for properly removing network connections from the list of stored network connections.

Last but not least, the Network applet has received various enhancements, such as a fix for the icon that shows the current status of the VPN connection, and the "Auto" wireless connection is now being displayed whenever the user turns Wi-Fi off and then back on. Cinnamon 3.0.6 is available for download now and will soon arrive in the main repositories of various GNU/Linux distributions.
