Chuwi has become famous for creating copies of Microsoft’s Surface models that cost substantially less, and the firm is now back with a smaller model that bets big on portability.

Called SurBook Mini, the new 2-in-1 from Chuwi is based on the same approach as its predecessors, mixing decent hardware with a small price.

The device will feature a 10.8-inch display with 1920x1080 pixel resolution, so it’s smaller than any Surface model in Microsoft’s lineup, but promises to offer a Windows 10 experience with no compromises.

Slow CPU

The hardware section continues with a fanless Intel Celeron N3450 chip paired with 4GB of RAM. While there are several low-end Windows 10 S devices powered by the same processor, it’s not exactly the best in terms of performance, as the CPU clearly shows its limits when it comes to more demanding tasks or multitasking.

But for the average user who doesn’t want anything else than running Windows Store apps, watching movies, or listening to music, it should be just fine.

As an extra, buyers also get 64GB of storage and support for eMMC should more space be needed. And if you want to connect any external storage device, there are several ports to help you in this regard, including one USB-C (also used for charging) and 2 USB 3.0 ports.

The Chuwi SurBook Mini will go on sale on November 11 for just $299, and the package also includes a keyboard cover and a HiPen stylus. Because in typical Microsoft fashion, Chuwi also offers a pen to enjoy Windows Ink and all the other features that are part of the Fall Creators Update.

It remains to be seen how productive this particular configuration can be, though it’s worth noting that given the processor and the RAM settings, you better not be willing to buy it for playing games or editing 4K videos.
