The hungry predator has killed hundreds of birds, allegedly

A couple of weeks back, on July 23, a family in the village of Davydovka in Russia woke up to find 95 of their chickens had been slain by a mysterious predator that struck under the cover of darkness.

Then, the day after, another 100 birds of the same species showed up dead in the very same village. The death toll now stands at hundreds of chickens and about 60 geese, all found with bite marks on their body but with very little blood spilled on the ground.

People think a chupacabra killed the birds

When the first dead chickens were discovered, people in the village of Davydovka blamed a dog or maybe a wolf for the kills. Then, they found a set of tracks too large to have been left behind by a pooch gone wild.

What with no blood found anywhere near the deceased birds, a wolf attack was ruled out and people agreed on a chupacabra as the most likely culprit. Mind you, a villager claims to have even seen the elusive predator.

“Strange-looking dog with a thin body, short and shining dark-brown hair, longish muzzle and large flaps. Never ever in my life I have seen a dog of this kind,” the woman said in an interview, as cited by MU.

Local authorities in this part of Russia insist that this chupacabra story makes no sense whatsoever and that, forensic evidence that testifies to the contrary aside, odds are the birds were killed by a hungry dog.

These are not the first incidents of the kind

What's interesting is that animals have mysteriously died in Russia before. For instance, it was in 2006 that turkeys and sheep unmistakably murdered and drained of their blood were found in the country's Chelyabinsk region. Then, in 2011, it was sheep.

Hence, regardless of what authorities might say, people cannot help but wonder whether it might not be that a chupacabra is on the loose in this corner of the world.
