14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung is the only company that has an entire series of smartphones with dual curved displays. At one point, the South Korean handset maker thought its edge series could replace the more popular Galaxy Note family in Europe, but the move failed miserably.
Today, another handset maker announced plans to release a similar smartphone that would feature dual curved display. Chinese company Vivo has just teased the information on its Weibo account, along with the name of its upcoming flagship smartphone.
The new Xplay 5 will be officially unveiled on March 1, but we do not expect Vivo to make it available worldwide. However, there's a high chance that the flagship will be available at various Chinese retailers that ship internationally, so those who absolutely must own the Xplay 5 will eventually be able to get it.
Aside from the fact that it comes with a dual curved display, Vivo hasn't teased any other information regarding the specs inside the Xplay 5.
World's first smartphone to pack 6GB RAM?
The good news is the rumor mill has already “confirmed” some of the smartphone's specs, which are kind of hard to believe, so take it with a ton of salt if you will.
For example, Vivo Xplay 5 is said to come equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor inside, coupled with no less than 6GB of RAM. If these rumors are accurate, then Vivo Xplay 5 could become the world's first smartphone to pack 6GB of RAM.
Also, the dual curved display should measure 6-inch and support Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution. The Xplay 5 is also rumored to be powered by a large 4,000 mAh battery. It will also come with Hi-Fi audio technology inside, but no additional details on this one have been leaked yet.
Vivo Xplay 5's massive 6-inch dual curved display might be provided by Samsung, though we're wondering if the South Korean company would be able to produce so many curved displays considering the Galaxy S7 edge will be launched on the market in less than a month from now.
