Google is building the next version of Android to include support for iPhone X-like notches, but it looks like manufacturers can’t wait anymore and bring such features to the market with the existing versions of the operating system.

Chinese brand Oukitel announced the U18 at this year’s MWC, after the company previously teased the device earlier this month on its website, and unsurprisingly, the notch is one of the key features.

While the mix of a notch and Android is not entirely new, the price is certainly spectacular. The Oukitel U18 can be yours for just $159.99 in either black or gold.

Technical specifications

While comparing the Oukitel U18 with the iPhone X doesn’t make much sense, having a look at the spec sheet is important to understand what exactly you get for that price tag.

First and foremost, the phone comes with a 5.85-inch display with 21:9 aspect ratio and 1512x720 pixel resolution. Oukitel says this is a “HD+” screen, though its quality will be something I’d like to see in real life, and not in press releases.

Power comes from a Mediatek 6750T octa-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and paired with 4GB RAM. You get 64GB storage and dual-cameras on the back with 16MP and 5MP lens. A 13-megapixel front-facing camera is offered for selfies and video calls.

Other extras include a 4,000 mAh battery and a USB Type-C port, with Oukitel promising stunning battery life. A fingerprint sensor is also offered, and so is facial recognition, as Oukitel has introduced special cameras in that front-facing notch just for this purpose.

At 213 grams, it’s one heavy phone, but for the price you pay, you really can’t ask for more. On the other hand, the U18 comes with Android 7 out of the box, and the Chinese manufacturer promises that at some point in the future the upgrade to Oreo will also be offered.
