More affordable model expected in September

Apple’s 2018 iPhone trio is expected to include a 6.1-inch more affordable model that would give up on super-premium features in return for a lower price.

The device would thus sport LCD instead of OLED, a metallic body, no dual-camera system, no wireless charging, and possibly no 3D Touch, all in an attempt to keep the price tag as low as possible.

And according to an analyst forecast, Apple is likely to embrace a strategy that it used before for the iPhone 5c as it tried to differentiate this more affordable model from its more expensive siblings: new colors.

The LCD iPhone coming in September could thus be available in colors like blue, yellow, and pink, yet judging from Apple’s track in this regard, the company could use more special shades instead of the standard ones. It’s not yet known whether Apple is also considering different names for these colors.

Plus-sized iPhone X also planned

While there’s absolutely no confirmation that Apple could introduce new colors for the LCD iPhone, such a strategy certainly makes sense. These brighter colors could help the company target buyers like teenagers, though earlier this year analysts revealed that the main purpose of this particular model would be going after customers in markets like China.

A more affordable iPhone could indeed help Apple expand in unexplored markets, but at the same time, the company wants its premium offering to get a facelift as well.

This year’s lineup would include a 5.8-inch iPhone X as well, possibly with improved camera and new chip, as well as a Plus-sized version of this device. Rumor has it the iPhone X Plus might feature a 6.5-inch OLED display, wireless charging and a glass body.

All iPhone models launching this year will come with facial recognition, therefore a notch is expected to make it to all devices, including the more affordable model.
