Google often provides its proprietary messaging application Allo with all sorts of updates and new features. One of the tools that Google has been working on is chat backups to Google Drive or local storage.

This is a feature that has long been requested by users, and it could finally arrive with the latest 9.0 update to Google Allo, according to a report. The APK teardown found traces of software indicating that an implementation of chat backups to either Google Drive or local storage will arrive soon.

The teardown seems to indicate that users will be able to back up other content, aside from chats with friends. Images, videos, stickers and even emoji can be included in these backups. Such a feature will surely be useful when wanting to safely secure information received in chats.

Other features will arrive to Allo soon

Obviously, the backup tool will also include a feature for restoring chats and thus giving the option to send replies to continue the conversation or read previous messages in the chat. The teardown also reveals that Google will offer users the option to back up their chats over WiFi only, as opposed to using mobile data.

Moreover, there’s evidence of a selfie-generated sticker pack, which would allow Allo to create stickers from selfies and receive feedback regarding its resemblance to the user.

Aside from chat backup and restore, Allo could also receive a Quick Selfie tool for snapping quick pictures directly from inside the app.

Presumably, the feature will be activated with a tap-and-hold action or some kind of quick gesture. Group incognito chats might also be featured in an update to Allo soon. Recently, Google provided Allo users with a tool for sharing various types of files with their friends, including videos, pictures and even PDF documents. Duo, another Google proprietary application, received an audio-only calls feature recently, adding to the app’s capability of conducting video calls.
