Four years after successfully crowdfunding a little bit over $100k on Kickstarter, Children of Morta, the rogue-lite aRPG by Dead Mage is finally making its way to PC. If you prefer to play this one on console (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch), you'll have to wait until October 15.

Unlike many other rogue-lite games out there, Children of Morta is a story-driven action RPG that copes with very common themes even though it's set in a distant, fantasy land. The game tells the story of a family, the Bergsons, in their quest to save their home from the darkness.

As you progress into the story, you'll unlock new members of the family, each with their unique abilities and playstyles. As the Bergsons strengthen them and themselves when fighting, players can unlock passive bonuses that apply to all members of the family. It's one of the ways that the game encourages you to play with all characters.

Even if you feel attached to a certain playstyle, you won't be able to finish the game by playing with a single character since the Bergsons can get sick of they are used too much, so you'll have to bench them for a while.

Luckily, each family member has different backgrounds and expertise, shaping them into a diverse group of fighters. But that's not all, as players can use money looted from dungeons to upgrade the family's gear and boost main attributes.

Since this is a rogue-lite game, expect a different layout every time you delve into the mystical mountain engulfed by darkness. The touch of corruption makes every forest, dungeon, or temple different each time you explore and skirmish through them.

And the best part is that you can play it with your friends since Children of Morta features local co-op. Apparently, online co-op multiplayer will be added in a future update.

Graphics-wise, Children of Morta looks gorgeous thanks to the combination of hand-painted pixel art and frame-by-frame animations, as well as the modern lighting techniques.

Children of Morta is available right now via Steam, GOG and Humble Store for $22 (€22) and will be coming to consoles on October 15.
