With great pleasure, Chakra GNU/Linux developer Neofytos Kolokotronis informed the community about the latest open source software projects and technologies that landed in the stable repositories of the distribution originally based on Arch Linux.

Just like Arch Linux, Chakra GNU/Linux is a rolling operating system, which means that users always receive the latest updates without having to download a new ISO image and reinstall. And today, we're happy to inform our Chakra GNU/Linux users that they've received the newest KDE Plasma 5.8.2 LTS desktop environment.

But KDE Plasma 5.8.2 doesn't come alone, and users are also getting the KDE Applications 16.08.2 software suite, along with the KDE Frameworks 5.27.0 collection of add-ons for Qt 5. These introduce an updated Plasma Workspace component that now offers the ksuperkey package functionality by default.

"The latest updates for KDE's Plasma, Applications and Frameworks series are now available to all Chakra users," said Neofytos Kolokotronis in the announcement. "The Plasma 5.8.2 release provides additional bugfixes to the many new features and changes that were introduced in 5.8.0 aimed at enhancing users' experience."

LibreOffice 5.2.2, Steam 1.0.0.53, and OpenSSL 1.0.2.j now available

Apart from the awesome KDE releases mentioned above, there were numerous other important and popular open source software projects that landed in the Chakra GNU/Linux repositories, including the LibreOffice 5.2.2 office suite, MPV 0.21.0 video player, Vim 8.0.0045 advanced text editor, and Kexi 3.0.0 database creator.

When upgrading to Kexi 3.0.0, users are informed to follow Chakra GNU/Linux official FAQ documentation if they receive a warning message about files already being present on the filesystem. Moreover, the gconf package will now be installed automatically as a dependency of plasma-pa.

Among other goodies that landed for Chakra GNU/Linux users, we can mention Wireshark 2.2.1, Nmap 7.30, Filezilla 3.22.1, Wine 1.9.21, q4wine 1.3.3, Steam 1.0.0.53, Lua 5.3.3, GnuTLS 3.4.15, Rust 1.12.0, PHP 7.0.11, filesystem 2016.09, intel-ucode 20160714, laptop-mode-tools 1.70, and OpenSSL 1.0.2j.

We recommend all users to update their system as soon as possible if they want to receive all the things mentioned above. Please note that you'll need to run the "pacman -Syu" command in a terminal emulator for that, and that not all mirrors were synced with the main server at the moment of writing this story.
