14 DAY TRIAL // Alessio Fattorini, leader of the NethServer community, has informed us today about the general availability and immediate release of the NethServer 7.4 server-oriented GNU/Linux operating system.
Based on CentOS 7.4 (1708), the latest release of the open-source Linux server system based on Red Hat's commercial RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) platform, NethServer 7.4 incorporates all the stream packages and technologies, but also introduces several new features and enhancements of its own.
Designed to make the life of system administrators a lot easier, NethServer 7.4 improves the local Active Directory (AD) account provider to automatically apply updates to the Samba DC instance, which was bumped to version 4.6.8, and to add support for remote AD and LDAP (local too) locations.
Additionally,t's now possible to change the IP and the account provider from AD to LDAP and vice versa. NethServer 7.4 also implements a new update mechanism to notify users when new upstream releases are available, and updates the FreePBX and Asterisk VoIP servers to versions 14.0.1.8 and 13.17.0-3 respectively.

Patched web proxy, IPS and antivirus updates, other improvements
Among other noteworthy changes implemented in the NethServer 7.4 release, we can mention updated Squid web proxy for a smoother web navigation, Ntopng 3 as default bandwidth measurement tool instead of Bandwidthd, enhanced IPS and antivirus modules, and update of the Nextcloud cloud server to version 12.0.3.
The ufdbGuard web content filtering solution has been updated as well, to version 1.33.4, speedtest has been added to the Diagnostics panel to test your Internet speed, it's now possible to prevent intrusions with rule categories, and the restore and upgrade procedure was enhanced to support NethServer 6 configs.
Last but not least, Webtop was updated to version 5.0.13 with support for Nextcloud and XMPP client integration. NethServer 7.4 is available for download right now from our website, but existing users can upgrade their installations through the Software Center as we speak.
