Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, a gothic horror side-scrolling action RPG for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 is launching on June 21st, and on June 28th respectively for Nintendo Switch.

People imagine that once 3D games appeared on the market, side-scrolling titles were going to become a thing of the past. Not only that didn’t happen, but the entire side-scrolling genre is making a comeback.

Moreover, this side-scrolling game benefits from the implementation of some RPG elements, with really interesting results. And you take into consideration the fact that it’s also a “gothic horror” game, the Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night starts to sound pretty interesting.

Using the negative comments in the trailer

I’m sure that developers don’t like seeing bad comments for their games, but most of the time studios don’t actually acknowledge them. The developers from ArtPlay, DICO, and WayForward Technologies took those negative comments to heart and improved pretty much all aspects of the game. And then they used samples of negative comments throughout the launch trailer, which takes a lot of courage.

If the game feels somewhat familiar, you’re not wrong. The game is led by Koji Igarashi, who made the original Castlevania franchise, and the Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is in many ways a spiritual successor.

“Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is set in 18th century England – a paranormal force has summoned a demon-infested castle, revealing crystal shards infused with tremendous magical power. Players take on the role of Miriam, an orphan scarred by an alchemist curse which slowly crystallizes her body. To save humanity and herself, Miriam must fight through the castle while collecting, crafting and unlocking a vast array of weapons, equipment and loot to defeat the summoner Gebel and the countless minions and bosses of hell that await,” reads the official synopsis.

The cherry on top is the orchestral music which is done by Michiru Yamane (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night) and Ippo Yamada (Resident Evil), respectively.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is expected to arrive on Friday, June 21st for Xbox One and PlayStation, and on Friday, June 28th for Nintendo Switch.
