14 DAY TRIAL // Exactly one year ago, Casio launched its first rugged smartwatch, the WSD-F10, a device that promised to offer up to one month of battery life. The wearable was introduced in the United States a few months later, where it sold for around $500.
So it's quite alright to have a dejavu feeling now that Casio announced its second rugged smartwatch belonging to the Pro Trek family, the WSD-F20. Just like the predecessor, the smartwatch will be launched on the market in the coming months, on April 21, to be more precise.
Casio hasn't yet announced a retail price for the WSD-F20 smartwatch, but AndroidCentral reports officials of the Japanese company confirmed the device would most likely cost $450 in the United States.
The Pro Trek WSD-F20 is a rugged smartwatch that features MIL-STD 810G rating and water resistance up to 50 meters. Unlike the predecessor, the upcoming model will be powered by Android Wear 2.0, Google's operating system for wearable devices.
Casio hasn't changed too much when it comes to design, so if you've seen the WSD-F10 smartwatch, the WSD-F20 model will feel very familiar to you. It features the same black and orange color scheme, or just pure black, tinted with screws at the top and bottom of the display.
It even sports a similar 1.32-inch dual layer display with 320 x 320 pixel resolution. One of the major improvements over the original model is the addition of a built-in GPS. The WSD-F20 comes with satellite view-style color maps, which can be viewed from the watch offline.
Since Casio's smartwatch now comes with GPS on board, the Japanese company has been able to add some activity tracking features such as Location memory, which allows users to put markers along their routes.
Although Casio doesn't specify the value of the battery inside the WSD-F20, it does say that, on normal use, you will get more than a 1 day, roughly. Obviously, if you use the smartwatch just for timekeeping, then it will last more than a month.
