Initial statements said it would be offered for all modes

Video game developer Treyarch and publisher Activision are saying that the newly revealed Safe House feature that will be part of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will only be used for the campaign side of the game, although there are statements that suggest that is not the case.

The clarification comes from the official Twitter account of the studio, but it seems that some fans are even more bewildered now than they were before.

Mark Lamia, the leader of the Treyarch team working on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, previously explained that Safe House was a social system layer that would cover all three core game modes.

He added, "You’re going to know where friends are and what they’re playing. When we looked at data from Black Ops 2, we discovered that people were playing multiple game modes in a single session, and we realised we had to make that easier, especially now we have a co-op experience."

We don't know at this point whether Safe House was initially designed to play a greater role in the first-person shooter and it was restricted during development, or if the studio leader simply misspoke.

It's also unclear how important the social elements of the new feature will be if they are limited to the campaign, which tends to be less popular than the competitive multiplayer.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is immersed in the future

Treyarch is taking gamers to 2065 and offers a new take on warfare, which features extensive use of robotics and gene enhancements, with all the involved combatants engineered to be powerful and always connected.

The single-player will apparently have more emotion and choice than ever before in the series.

For the multiplayer, Treyarch is adding more abilities for characters and wants the entire gameplay to be faster and more dynamic.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will be out on November 6 on the PC, the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft, and older home consoles.

For the first time in the history of the franchise, DLC for the shooter will be first offered on Sony-made devices, with those playing on other platforms having to wait for it for about one month.
