Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 developer Treyarch confirms that its team tore apart the franchise's common engine in order to produce visuals that are worthy of the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, but also graphics that ensure a smooth 60fps framerate no matter the circumstance.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is the third entry in the series and is set to appear on the new consoles, after Ghosts in 2013 and Advanced Warfare in 2014.

However, instead of just using the engine in those past titles, Treyarch's engineers decided to tear apart the actual technology in order to implement all-new mechanics, higher quality effects, as well as plenty of other improvements that ensure great visuals alongside the trademark 60fps framerate.

All sorts of different mechanics have been rebuilt

Treyarch Designer Director David Vonderhaar confirms to DualShockers that the engine was torn apart so that the studio's team could overhaul the lighting, implement a deferred renderer, as well as enhance the artificial intelligence and the user interface.

The main goal was to use the power of the PS4 and Xbox One, not to mention the PC, while reaching the benchmark performance of the series, which focuses mainly on a 60fps framerate.

According to Vonderhaar, fans will notice way more polygons in terms of objects or characters, not to mention better shades alongside the aforementioned overhauled lighting. All of these improved visuals won't make a dent in the performance, however, as he guarantees a smooth 60 frames per second across the new platforms.

Black Ops 3 is also set to appear on PS3 and Xbox 360, but publisher Activision has emphasized that its visuals as well as some of its mechanics have been dialed down to actually work on the old consoles.

The new first-person shooter launches on November 3, worldwide, and more details are set to appear in the following months.
