All the cartoons of your childhood under one roof

That Boomerang streaming service we were telling you about a while back is going live and it will cost you $5 per month to see classic cartoons and current series.

Originally promised back in March, the service had a full list of shows it was going to feature. On launch, however, the selection isn't as wide as some were hoping for.

Even so, Boomerang's service will offer shows from Hanna-Barbera, Looney Tunes and MGM, with some 5,000 titles to choose from. There are even series from beloved shows like "Tom & Jerry," "Bugs Bunny," and "Scooby Doo."

For now, however, the site says there are currently 1,000 episodes available for streaming, although more content will be added weekly. Some shows, for instance, haven't even been included at all for now, like "The Jetsons," or the other famous family - "The Flinstones."

Tough competition

It remains to be seen just how many people are eager to get hooked to this service. After all, the streaming market is plentiful without a service offering cartoons alone. Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu are full of kid-friendly programs, including blockbuster movies, TV shows, and so on.

Boomerang, however, may appeal to another group of people - the one who grew up with these shows. Yesterday's kids are today's parents who may be more eager than their offspring to check out these shows while bathing in the glow of nostalgy.

The company says its service will eventually be updated to include a wide range of features that are somewhat standard among other similar tools. For instance, personalized recommendations, family profiles and offline viewing are not currently available.

It seems like the launch of this service was a bit rushed as the show library is far from complete, and it doesn't even offer all "modern" features.

Aside from the $4.99 per month option, there's also the alternative of paying $39.99 for a full year, which brings the price down to just over $3. Given the limited selection they offer, that may be the best option so far.

Boomerang is currently available in the United States, on desktop, iOS and Android, although there are plans of expansion to Amazon, Roku, Chromecast, and Apple TV. Let's hope they're also planning to expand to other countries across the world.
