Starting in March, he will take over another beloved series

Even though Gears 5 was a success, the mastermind behind the beloved series has decided to leave Microsoft and take over another iconic franchise – Diablo. Rod Fergusson, The Coalition studio head, announced recently that he has decided to leave Microsoft and pursue other interests.

Unlike other major figures in the gaming industry, he wasn't shy to reveal where he'll land after working 15 years for Microsoft. Starting in March, Rod Fergusson will “oversee the Diablo franchise,” he announced in a tweet.

The last project Fergusson and his team worked on, Gears Tactics, is scheduled for release on April 28 and it will be available for free to all Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Rod Fergusson has been the main figure behind the Gears of War franchise and even has a Gears-related tattoo. His love for the series is undeniable, but it looks like Blizzard has made him an offer that he can't refuse.

Unfortunately, Fergusson will join Blizzard amid turmoil, as the US company has been accused of making Activision's games. Even now the studio is in the middle of a big controversy related to Warcraft III: Reforged, a game that's missing a lot of features and improvements that Blizzard promised to add.

Fans are now accusing Blizzard of lying about the changes that should have been added to Warcraft III: Reforged, and many are even asking for refunds. All in all, it's quite clear that the Blizzard that is now, it's not the one that brought us the original Diablo and Warcraft games.

We sincerely hope that Rod Fergusson will be able to steer the Blizzard boat in the right direction, but we're afraid that the problems run too deep for one man to be able to fix them. For now, let's just hope Diablo IV will live up to the hype.
