Blizzard is one of the most influential and long-lived companies in the gaming industry, and they are celebrating their 25th anniversary.

It's difficult to imagine the world without Blizzard. This company alone managed not only to remain afloat for so long but also to stay at the top. They didn't have a lot of IPs, but what they had they pushed to perfection.

When you hear Blizzard, you immediately think about World of Warcraft or Diablo, but when a company has been around for so long, you can't really put things in perspective. So here are some things that can help with that.

Their first game was RPM Racing in 1991, although not under the name of Blizzard. It was only for the SNES platform. The first game under the name of Blizzard Entertainment was Blackthorne in 1994, and it was for SNES, MS-DOS, and Mac OS systems.

The first game for the PCs was actually Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, on MS-DOS, also in 1994, and Diablo landed soon after in 1996. Starcraft was launched in 1998, and after that the studio stopped making stuff that was not somehow related to these properties.

25 years of Blizzard

Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard, and Frank Pierce, chief development officer and cofounder of Blizzard, talked a little bit about their company, in a YouTube video.

"Blizzard is celebrating its 25th anniversary and we feel so grateful to all of our players for supporting us all these years. We know we wouldn't be able to do what we do. We've really enjoyed and loved doing all these game and it really means a lot to us. We're really excited about the future and we have some of the most talented developers, we're going to have some great games to play in the future," Mike Morhaim said.
