The apps can't be downloaded via Google Play Store, though

BlackBerry launched several Android apps a few days before the PRIV got released on the market, but they're all restricted to its first Android smartphone.

Although they are listed on Google Play Store to make updates much easier for BlackBerry PRIV owners, these apps can't be installed on other Android smartphones.

It's unclear whether or not BlackBerry will make any of these apps available to all supported Android phones in the future, but we do know for sure that anyone can download them if they really wish to benefit from what they have to offer.

XDA forum user Xaius has just published a list of links that will allow any Android user to download the APKs of these BlackBerry applications on their devices.

Keep in mind, though, that some of these apps and services require root, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling all the unpatched BlackBerry APKs as system apps (BlackBerry Hub).

Some require installation of additional BlackBerry apps

It's also worth mentioning that even though these apps have been cracked to work on any compatible Android device, they are not 100% without any issues.

Many users have reported that BlackBerry Launcher is still unstable and might crash randomly on certain Android smartphones and tablets.

BlackBerry Calendar and BlackBerry Services are working smoothly and don't seem to have any issues running on non-PRIV devices.

However, as mentioned earlier, BlackBerry Hub, Device Search, Notes, and Tasks require root in order to work correctly.

On the other hand, Keyboard does not require any other BlackBerry application to be installed to function properly, so you can get it without having to install anything else.

For more details on how to download and install these Android apps on your non-PRIV smartphone or tablet, go ahead and check out the original thread on XDA Forum.
