BlackBerry has just unveiled a new Passport version which arrives in the wild with a beautiful Silver coloring option. At first glance, you might think BlackBerry just repainted the original Passport model and that’s it, but there’s more to the new Edition.

Actually, the Canadian company unveiled it as a completely new device, and the changes come in the design department, with the phone’s insides remaining exactly the same as in the black Passport.

So, the new handset comes with a refined design that includes a stainless steel frame and a soft-touch diamond pattern back cover. These design modifications are good news and might solve a particularly shady problem the Passport has.

We’re referring here to an issue that seems to affect a lot of Passport devices out there, but that many don’t really talk about. Basically, the display of the phone comes off for no clear reason, with the right bottom corner being the part of the device most affected by this problem.

The Silver Edition's better quality might solve a few things

In the article linked in the paragraph above, we talked extensively about this situation and even showed you a few ways to fix it.

Anyway, the new design the Passport Silver Edition comes with might prevent this from happening. Hopefully.

As for specifications, nothing new is added to the platter. You will still be getting a 4.5-inch square screen with 1,440 x 1,440 pixel resolution and 453 ppi pixel density. Inside, running the show is a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU with Adreno 330 GPU, plus 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card slot).

On the back, BlackBerry has placed a 13MP rear-facing camera, which is complemented by a 2MP front-facing camera for selfies, although this one is not very impressive. So if you’re looking for a selfie phone, you’d better look away from BlackBerry and its enterprise-bound devices.

Of course, BlackBerry 10 is the default operating system du-jour, although at some point we might see the company launch an Android-touting device too.

The Silver Edition is available in America for $549 / €504 a pop. To sweeten the deal, good old BlackBerry will also offer a $130 / €119 accessory package.
