What's new in Black Lab Enterprise Linux 11

Powered by the Linux 4.8 kernel and based on the Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system, Black Lab Enterprise Linux 11 is using the GNOME 3 desktop environment with Flatpak support, incorporates the KDE runtime packages to support Qt apps, and offers support for multiple filesystems, including EXT4, Btrfs, XFS, and JFS (the OS can be installed on these filesystems).

Support for ChromiumOS-style web containers is also present in Black Lab Enterprise Linux 11, along with various popular open source applications like the LibreOffice 5.3 office suite, Google Chrome 58 web browser, and Microsoft's Skype VoIP client. The GNOME 3.18.2 desktop is customized with an intuitive single-panel design featuring Applications Menu, Activities, and Date & Time applets.

The Enterprise edition is built to be deployed on military, research labs, and law enforcement environments, as well as small and medium-sized businesses. It includes tools for easy creation of databases, dwm (dynamic window manager) for deployment in embedded systems, and hybrid solutions for deployment of cloud and traditional apps.

On the other hand, Black Lab Enterprise Linux for Education 11 is based on the Edubuntu and DebianEDU/Skolelinux operating systems, and built for pre-K - 12 schools. It comes bundled with support for KinectOne cameras, the BleachBit app for secure deletion of sensitive data, ICE SSB for creating web app links, Synergy for sharing a single mouse and keyboard between multiple PCs, and Nitroshare for sharing files the easy way.

Black Lab Studio Linux 11 is designed for professional audio and video editing, thus it's powered by a real-time kernel and features TV and radio station automation, as well as the popular Mixxx free and open-source MP3 DJ mixing software. Lastly, Black Lab Enterprise Linux for IoT 11 features a system backup builder that allows the customization of builds for specific devices.

It also includes various tools for the automation of specific workloads, ICE SSB web app integration for site-specific-browser desktop apps, and several Xfce applications, including Xfce Terminal, Ristretto, Xfburn, Parole Media Player, Orage Calendar, Xfce Task Manager, and Globaltime.
