Black Lab Software's CEO Robert Dohnert informs Softpedia today on the immediate availability for download of what it would appear to be the third maintenance update to the Black Lab Enterprise Linux 11 operating system series.

Based on the recently released Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system, Black Lab Enterprise Linux 11.0.3 uses its HWE (Hardware Enablement) Linux 4.10.0-37 kernel and comes with up-to-date components, including LibreOffice 5.4, Google Chrome 60, Mozilla Thunderbird 52.3, Webmin 1.8, and Samba 4, as well as all the latest security patches from upstream.

"Black Lab Enterprise Linux 11.0.3 is targeted to small to medium-sized businesses and is used in production environments around the world ranging from businesses, education facilities, research laboratories, and multimedia production facilities. There have been many changes to Black Lab Enterprise Linux that were requested by customers and users," said Robert Dohnert, CEO, Black Lab Software.

Ksplice now implemented for rebootless kernel updates

Black Lab Enterprise Linux 11.0.3 also comes with the Ksplice component to provide users with rebootless kernel updates, the OpenLDAP free and open-source implementation of LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol), support for native and web-based containers, as well as support for installing the GNU/Linux distribution on the Btrfs, XFS or JFS filesystems.

New versions of the Black Lab Linux for Education, Black Lab Studio, and Black Lab Embedded Linux variants are available for download as well today, and they bring various improvements and updated components, too. In addition, Black Lab Enterprise Linux 11.0.3 is available for download as KDE Plasma 5, Xfce, LXDE, and MATE desktop spins from the official website. Existing users can upgrade to this new version just by simply applying all available updates from the distro's repositories.
