The developer will stop releasing full seasons though

Anthem was dead on arrival, but somehow BioWare managed to keep the “patient” on life support. The studio, or better say Electronica Arts, is not ready to give up on the game and believes BioWare can turn it around and make Anthem the “golden goose” it was to be in the first place.

After committing to fixing Anthem soon after launch and total silence of about a year or so, BioWare has finally come out with another statement regarding the future of the game. We're not sure how many people are still playing the game, but BioWare announced less new content will be delivered to focus on the “longer-term redesign” of Anthem.

Over the coming months, we will be focusing on a longer-term redesign of the experience, specifically working to reinvent the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges and progression with meaningful rewards – while preserving the fun of flying and fighting in a vast science-fantasy setting. And to do that properly we’ll be doing something we’d like to have done more of the first time around – giving a focused team the time to test and iterate, focusing on gameplay first.”

While BioWare is working to “redesign” Anthem, there will be no other full seasons released in the future, but the game will still receive events, store refreshes, and other seasonal and cataclysm content – starting with the anniversary towards the end of the month.

Posted on the studio's website by Case Hudson, BioWare's general manager, the statement doesn't offer any details about the actual redesign. It's hard to tell if a game like Anthem can still be saved after such a long time, but No Man's Sky and Pathfinder: Kingmaker are just a few examples that this can be done.

A roadmap with the changes BioWare plans to implement would have been a much better way to show fans that the studio is really committed to the idea that Anthem can be saved. I guess we'll hear more about the game in the coming months.
