Microsoft co-founder takes part in new Reddit AMA

Bill Gates is a heavy reddit user, and every once in a while, he takes to the social network for Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions to get in touch with users from all the world.

The latest such chat took place a few hours ago and Microsoft’s co-founder discussed a series of very interesting topics, including the chances of him running for President in 2020.

“I won’t be running for President because I am super committed to the work Melinda and I are doing at the Foundation and outside the Foundation. I agree it is important to have a President who thinks long term about the US role in the world and the research to solve disease burdens and costs and to tackle climate change and improve education,” Bill Gates explained.

When it comes to technology, Bill Gates says that what he misses the most from the days he was deeply involved in Microsoft’s business is the “urgency for everything we were doing to stay ahead.”

Cryptocurrency warning

Bill Gates is just a technical adviser to CEO Satya Nadella at this point, and although he promised he’d commit to a more active role within the company, his charity mission to fight diseases like malaria take most of the time.

One particular answer that’s worth highlighting in this field concerns cryptocurrencies, which Bill Gates recommends against because of their anonymity.

“The Governments ability to find money laundering and tax evasion and terrorist funding is a good thing. Right now crypto currencies are used for buying fentanyl and other drugs so it is a rare technology that has caused deaths in a fairly direct way. I think the speculative wave around ICOs and crypto currencies is super risky for those who go long,” he said.

You can read the entire AMA here, and it includes very detailed answers on Gates’ philanthropic mission, but for what it’s worth, he sidestepped all the answers on Apple and tech companies competing against Microsoft.
