Significant cyber attacks might spark a military clash

Following the most recent cyberattacks on American soil, Joe Biden stated that if the US were to be embroiled in a "real shooting war," it would be because of a massive cyberattack, according to ZDNet

The President's remarks come in the aftermath of the most powerful cyber attack ever seen. The attack targeted the American software vendor Kaseya and was launched by the Russian cybercriminal gang REvil. The incident affected over 1,500 of the company's customers worldwide as well as 60 managed service providers (MSPs).

Among all topics mentioned by Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin recently, cyberattacks received the greatest attention following the attacks on Colonial Pipeline, JBS, and SolarWinds. The last one affected US cybersecurity companies as well as federal agencies. He spoke about the US intelligence community and suggested that the route to conflict with a big power would probably come as a result of a significant cyber attack on the United States.

Following a massive cyberattack, the United States will certainly be engaged in a real war

Biden's statement reads "You know, we've seen how cyber threats, including ransomware attacks, increasingly are able to cause damage and disruption to the real world," [...] "I can't guarantee this, and you're as informed as I am, but I think it's more likely we're going to end up — well, if we end up in a war, a real shooting war with a major power, it's going to be as a consequence of a cyber breach of great consequence.  And it's increasing exponentially — the capabilities."

The president of the United States also criticized the situation of Russia's economy under the rule of Vladimir Putin, saying that the country has "a real problem" that makes the Russian president worrisome. He goes on to say that Putin leads a country with no economy other than oil wells and nuclear weapons. Because Russia's economy is currently the eighth smallest in the world, Biden believes Putin is in serious trouble, making him even more dangerous.

Regarding the United States elections in 2022, the President of the United States has stated that if Russia gets involved in a disinformation campaign, it would be a violation of American sovereignty.
