The Beyond: Chapter 4 update for Elite Dangerous is coming out in a couple of days, and promises to revamp the mining process, to enhance space exploration, and even to some aspects of the game engine.

Elite Dangerous has a different approach to episodic content, and right now it’s pretty much the only one work this way. Basically, until now, players paid for the base game and a season pass, which brought them a ton of content. This new update, which is said to be the largest until now, is also covered by the season pass as well.

It’s likely that as things progress with the game, a second seasons pass will be available, but until then we still have to play through The Beyond: Chapter 4 update, which is substantial, to say the least. It might not seem like it from the features, but keep in mind that it’s an entire galaxy out there.

New ships and new mining

There are quite a few new features made available with The Beyond: Chapter 4 for Elite Dangerous, but the most interesting one seems to be the enhanced mining. Until now, people were just shooting at asteroids, picking up what's expelled.

Now, the new mechanics will allow users to detonate asteroids to get to even more resources, which in turn means more money for players. Also, the space exploration is getting a new Analysis Mode, with a fresh Exploration Discovery Scanner and Detailed Discovery Scanner.

Players will have an easier time find Unidentified Signal Sources in a system and to investigate planets in much more detail. The last item major item on the list are the new Squadrons, which should provide better integration of the community.

The Beyond: Chapter 4 update for Elite Dangerous is expected to arrive on December 11, which usually means some downtime for the official servers. More details about the new update can be found on the official website.
