It's been a crazy year for Bethesda Softworks

Bethesda Softworks has taken a little time to talk about what they've released in 2015 and what's coming in 2016.

It's clear that Bethesda Softworks has had an amazing year with the release of Fallout 4, and it will be difficult to get the same kind of success in 2016, but they still have a few interesting titles coming, and they don't underestimate the community's wish to play games from their old franchises.

There were two different high and low points for Bethesda, although you won't find them admitting this. The high point for the company was the release of the free-to-play Fallout Shelter, which took everyone by surprise. Even with Fallout 4 now out and available for all the conceivable platforms, this is still a game played by millions of people. It has microtransactions, but they are discreet, and they don't affect the gameplay all that much.

The low point for Bethesda was The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, which finally arrived on consoles, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. They dropped the mandatory subscription to the game, and anyone can play as much as they want. It's not a bad title, but it's still not the Elder Scrolls that people were waiting for.

What's coming in 2016

There are two games that should get people really interested in Bethesda Softworks' plan: the new Doom and Dishonored 2. Both of these have shown some great potential.

"DOOM blasted its way back into the hearts and trigger fingers of eager fans. After a riveting reveal at our #BE3 showcase, DOOM stormed QuakeCon, where attendees lined up to try their hands at multiplayer. Dishonored 2 was another big surprise when it was announced at our #BE3 showcase, with the reveal of a fully playable Emily Kaldwin," the studio writes on Steam.

Bethesda Softworks is setting up the bar pretty high, but they might just be able to deliver on it.
