Google promises a fix is already on the way

As if the notch wasn’t already controversial enough, Google Pixel 3 XL are getting what could be the more ironic bug in a long time.

A secondary notch shows up on the side of the phone, having the exact dimensions of the physical one at the top of the screen. So if you’ve purchased a Google Pixel 3 XL, there’s a good chance the phone comes with not one, but two different notches on the screen.

And while the physical one can actually be removed thanks to software tweaks offered by Google, not the same thing can be said about the second one that shows up accidentally.

The only way to make it disappear is to reboot the phone, but it’s then just a matter of time until it shows up once again. Several users on reddit confirmed this is something that’s happening on their phones as well, and for now, there doesn’t seem to be a pattern that triggers the bug.

Fix possibly coming next week

However, the notch could appear on either the right or left of the screen of the no clear reason, and as said, there’s no way to make it go away other than restarting the phone completely.

Google has already acknowledged the humorous glitch and said that a fix is coming, though for now no ETA has been provided. On the other hand, Pixel 3 XL is already expected to receive the monthly update in just a few days as November kicks in, and software refinements, including a fix for the secondary notch, is also likely.

In the meantime, if your Pixel 3 XL grows another notch, there’s no need to worry. This isn’t Google Pixel 3 XL Chernobyl Edition, but only a software glitch that the search company has promised to fix in a few days.
