If you’re looking for a new antivirus solution to protect your Windows computer, AV-Comparatives lends a hand with a summary of 2016 that includes the best security products it tested last year.

Specifically, the antivirus testing organization looked at 2016 data to determine the best security solution for 2016, offering several awards that emphasize their capabilities of providing protection to Windows users.

Best antivirus products

AV-Comparatives says Avira is the 2016 product of the year, as it offered maximum protection in all tests throughout the year. Avira performed flawlessly in tests for file detection, performance, real-world protection, and malware removal.

Both Bitdefender and Kaspersky build “outstanding” antivirus products, the organization says, as their performance was also impressive during 2016, with maximum points scored in all tests.

The top-rated products in 2016 are Emsisoft, ESET, Tencent, ThreatTrack VIPRE, all of which were very close to flawless protection, but which failed to get the maximum points in some specific tests (as is the case of ESET’s antivirus, which lost points in the case of real-world protection).

According to the results, the programs with the best overall results throughout the year are Bitdefender, Avira, Kaspersky, ThreatTrack VIPRE, and AVG, so if you’re looking for an antivirus, one of these should be just fine. When it comes to file detection, there are two clear leaders, namely Avira and Kaspersky Lab, which scored over 99.9 percent during the tests.

If your computer has already been infected, and you are now looking for a security product to remove the infection, AV-Comparatives says the best malware removal tools are those from Kaspersky, Tencent, AVG, Avira, and Bitdefender.

And last but not least, the best apps when it comes to the impact that they have on system performance are Avast, Avira, Bitdefender, Emsisoft, ESET, and Kaspersky.

As you can see, these lists include pretty much the same antivirus solutions that we’ve seen being praised in the past, so the choice shouldn’t be too hard for those looking for a security product.
