When Warner Bros. cast Ben Affleck as Batman, they made sure to distance this new iteration of the character from the quite-recent one from Chris Nolan’s “Dark Knight” trilogy, with Christian Bale. Rumor even claimed that they would not be rebooting the Batman franchise as a standalone one, but only use the character in their Justice League movies.

If that was ever the plan, it’s been tossed out the window, according to a new report in Den of Geek. The announcement that was supposed to be made at San Diego Comic-Con 2015 last month, will come soon: Ben Affleck will star in his own Batman franchise, which will include 3 movies.

Ben Affleck will be Batman for at least 10 years

If Affleck is tied to Warners as Batman for more than just the Justice League movies, the first one of which, “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” drops in March 2016, this means that he’ll be wearing the cape and cowl for at least 10 years, assuming everything goes according to plan.

Insiders familiar with the situation claim that his contract is now being negotiated, with an announcement believed to drop soon.

Apparently, what convinced studio bosses to really give it a try was the reaction an advanced screening for “Dawn of Justice” got: a cut of the film (which will probably be the final one) was shown to the crew and studio bosses, and they loved it.

The film even got a “standing ovation,” so now, “basically, Warners are now working their movie universe around Ben’s Batman.” They see him as the “definitive Batman,” though the report doesn’t mention what could possibly make Affleck more “definitive” than Bale.

Ben Affleck’s got it made

His personal life may be going down the gutter, what with the nanny cheating scandal and the divorce from Jennifer Garner, but his career is taking off big time.

There was little doubt that Affleck’s popularity in cinema would receive a massive boost once he landed the Batman gig, but no one expected Warners to give him more than appearances in their interconnected Justice League movies. These also include next year’s “Suicide Squad,” by the way.

Now, Warners is rebooting the Batman franchise as well and they’re doing it with Batfleck Affleck, which will probably not be welcomed with ecstatic cheers from loyal fans. Moreover, it is said that the first Batman solo movie will be based off a script that Affleck is working on right now. He will also be sitting in the director’s chair.
