14 DAY TRIAL // A small set of images of relatively poor quality are suggesting that video game publisher Electronic Arts and a team at DICE are working on Battlefield 2143, which will presumably be the next title in the franchise to be revealed and launched.
A user on Reddit, who apparently did not have permission to share the screenshots or to talk about when they were acquired, has shared them with the wider community.
The first screenshot shows just the name of the coming title and the slogan War Is Changing, with the second one offering a look at what seems to be a portion of the single-player campaign, with a character named Camden, while the third is almost too blurry to be useful.
Neither DICE nor Electronic Arts has officially reacted to the leak of Battlefield 2143, and it's unclear when the two companies might be interested in making an official announcement.
Battlefield 2142 was launched in 2006 and was not a favorite for either critics or the fan community.
It's entirely possible that the images are doctored and do not actually represent a look at the new title in the series.
The quality is the biggest problem with the leak, but the fonts and the general imagery is consistent with the past of the Battlefield.
2143 might be a direct response to the coming Black Ops 3
At the moment, DICE is continuing to deliver more content for Battlefield 4, including a new classic map project, while Visceral Games is working on introducing more DLC for the spin-off Battlefield Hardline.
The leaked game might be designed as the direct competitor from DICE and Electronic Arts for the coming Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, from Treyarch and Activision.
That might mean that an announcement might be made before the end of the year and launch would take place in early 2016.
Electronic Arts has previously said that it will launch a new Battlefield title next year, and most of the fans believed that they would get Battlefield 4, with a new engine and an improved set of core features.
Delivering another spin-off will annoy some of the fans of the franchise, but 2143 could offer an interesting new take on the first-person shooter genre.
UPDATE: The community now seems to believe that the images are fakes and that the game is not in active development.
