An even for which Electronic Arts was completely unprepared

A unique event took place in Battlefield 1 as players enforced, albeit for a very short while, a truce in commemoration of the 100 Year Anniversary of the end of First World War.

Trump missed the commemoration of fallen soldiers in France and invoked the rain as the main reason. It turns out that random people gathered on Battlefield 1 server can show more patriotism than a US president in office.

Since this is a unique event and not scripted in any way into the game, the players just had to stop fighting for a short while, in the 11th hour, on November 11th. Of course, there is always someone ready to ruin such a momentous event. But the important thing is that most people actually went for it.

Electronic Arts didn’t anticipate

Everyone could observe the anniversary of the 100 Year Anniversary of the end of first World War, on November 11th. But it turns out that Electronic Arts didn’t have the foresight to anticipate something along these lines.

Since EA is publishing the only game set in the first World War, they could have prepared for the event, and maybe organize something scripted. In the mayhem of war, people stopped shooting, but it didn’t make a hell of a difference because the ships were still bombarding the entrenchments, and planes flew overhead.

It would have been the perfect opportunity for EA to stop everything for just a couple of minutes, especially since they control the servers.

The in-game event took place in Melbourne, at 11 a.m. The “moment of silence” was broken by a plane which started killing people gathered around on the beach, and by someone stabbing the guy recording everything.
