2K Games and Gearbox Software have announced at Gamescom 2015 a release date for their upcoming Battleborn first-person shooter, besides offering a set of screenshots, a gameplay video, and even confirmation that a beta is going to arrive ahead of the actual launch.

Battleborn was revealed to the world some time ago as a bold new project from Gearbox Software, the studio that delighted tens of millions of fans with the Borderlands saga.

The new title, while once again delivering a first-person shooter experience with stylized visuals, is a bit different from Borderlands, featuring story-based missions that can be completed alone or by up to five players via co-op. A suite of multiplayer modes, inspired by battle arena experiences like Dota 2 or League of Legends, are also included.

Battleborn debuts in February and a beta arrives before that

After sharing plenty of new details, screenshots, and videos at E3 2015 in June, the two companies have made a few big announcements at Gamescom 2015 this week.

First up, Battleborn is set to officially launch on February 9, 2016, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms. An open beta stage will be available across all devices ahead of that launch and more details about it will be offered later this year.

Besides the release details, 2K and Gearbox have also offered information about four new characters. There's Ambra, a melee specialist that can also heal allies while attacking. Mellka is a stealthy assassin that disorients foes by using a nerve gas machine pistol and brutal melee glaives.

Reyna uses her laser pistol to deal damage, as well as her command glove to support teammates, while Benedict employs his rocket launcher to perform jumps as well as deal damage.
