We know that Batman: Arkham Knight is the final title in the franchise created by developer Rocksteady, but it seems that publisher Warner Bros. still has long-term plans for the character and might make an announcement about the way he will be used in video games as soon as the development process for a new experience is ongoing.

Ames Kirshen, a vice president of product development at the company, is quoted by the PS Blog as saying that the intellectual property is very important and the Arkham series managed to show the power of the character and how he could capture the imagination of players.

The executive adds, "We don’t have anything to talk about at this time, but the possibilities are endless with a character as dynamic and beloved as Batman."

Rocksteady explained that for Arkham Knight it sought to close all the narrative gaps that were opened up over the previous three titles and give Batman a worthy and powerful rival.

Warner Bros. might seek to deliver a new video game that uses the character when his new cinematic appearance debuts in the coming Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016.

Other DC Comics characters might become video game stars

Ames Kirshen also suggests that the company has a wealth of interesting intellectual property to choose from and that many comics book superheroes and villains can lead a video game series in the future.

Rumors about a dark open world take on Superman have appeared for a while, but no official announcement about such a title has been made.

Many fans believe that it's impossible to convey the almost invincible power of the character using traditional video game mechanics.

The recently launched LEGO Dimensions features a number of DC Comics characters and gamers can also play a superhero in DC Universe Online, an MMO which is offered using a free-to-play model.

At the moment, Rocksteady is working on new downloadable content for Batman: Arkham Knight, which will add customization options and new story elements,.

At the same time, Warner Bros. is aiming to deliver a full PC patch and to bring the video game back on stores following the major problems that it had to face when it was originally offered.
