Five new D&D games to be released in the next 5 years

If you live under a rock, then you probably don't know Larian Studios announced Baldur's Gate 3 gameplay will be revealed on February 27. We hope that the studio will also unveil a release window for the upcoming cRPG, but it looks like we're going to get more than this in 2020.

Hasbro, the company that owns Wizards of the Coast and, implicitly, D&D, held an investor event at the New York Toy Fair this week, Bell of Lost Souls reports. During the investor event, Hasbro revealed its digital plans for the next five years.

One of the key highlights of the investor event was the mention of the Baldur's Gate 3, which supposedly will be available in early access later this year. Larian Studios is no stranger to this “open” system where they work closely with the community to make their games better before launch.

Both Divinity Original Sin and its sequel benefited from fans' feedback and they turned out to be greater games because of that. Larian Studios already amassed a very dedicated community and its feedback is likely to be crucial for Baldur's Gate 3 in case the studio decides to release it in Early Access.

The only issue we're seeing is that Baldur's Gate 3 is much heavier on the story then Larian's Divinity games. Playing a story-driven cRPG when it's not yet finished is not what fans of the genre want, but the option is there for those who want to participate in the creation process.

If the information proves to be accurate, the only reason Larian will release Baldur's Gate 3 in early access is specifically to shape the game based on the community's feedback. Hopefully, we'll learn more about Baldur's Gate 3 release later this month.

In the same piece of news, Hasbro announced that besides Dark Alliance and Baldur's Gate 3, five unannounced D&D video games are already in development. One of these games will be released each year until 2025.
