Almost everyone who knows a bit more details about Taylor Swift and Katy Perry’s massive fallout is convinced that the song “Bad Blood,” a single off the “1989” album, is about Katy. The video, which you can see below, plays into that idea by having a be-wigged Selena Gomez play Taylor’s nemesis, while looking like a convincing Katy lookalike.

The problem with that, Taylor tells GQ Magazine, is that she never said the song was about Katy, she only said it wasn’t about a guy because she didn’t want her ex-boyfriend or her family to think that she was dissing him.

She only said that the song was about the loss of a friendship and about a girl, and everything spun out of control from there. She doesn’t mind it that much - she actually says she doesn’t care what people believe about the song -, but she would rather people stopped saying she personally namedropped Katy, because it never happened.

“Listen to the song. It doesn’t point to any one person or any one situation,” Taylor explains. “But if you’d listened to my previous four albums, you would think this was about a guy who broke my heart. And nothing could be further from the truth. It was important to show that losing friendships can be just as damaging to a person as losing a romantic relationship.”

Here’s the song and the video. Katy and Taylor were good friends for a long time, before they got into a fight when Katy hired dancers from under Taylor, smack in the middle of an arena tour. Taylor did say that this kind of professional backstabbing was something she couldn’t stand for.
