As expected, ZTE launched its first Axon-branded smartphone in the United States. During an event in NYC, the Chinese company stated that the Axon Phone has been designed in and for the United States market.

Judging by the phone's specs sheet, it's clearly a high-end smartphone that will most likely appeal to customers looking for a device that packs the latest technologies in the industry.

ZTE's Axon Phone will compete in the United States with Asus' Zenfone 2, which packs more than decent specs and is priced very low in comparison with other known brands like Apple, Samsung and LG.

Customers will be able to purchase the Axon Phone in the United States beginning today for just $450. The smartphone is available from ZTE's online store, Amazon, eBay and Newegg, but shipments will begin on July 27.

But let's see what customers will get for the price they pay. First of all, the Axon Phone shops with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box.

Moreover, ZTE confirmed that the Axon Phone would benefit from two-year manufacturer warranty and would be upgraded to the newest version of Android as fast as possible.

No microSD card slot and non-removable battery

Moving on to hardware, ZTE's Axon Phone is equipped with a powerful, but controversial, 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, which is paired with no less than 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory.

Unfortunately, the smartphone does not come with microSD card slot for memory expansion, and the 3,000 mAh battery inside is non-removable.

Apart from the powerful CPU, the Axon Phone also boasts a stunning 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution.

On the back, the smartphone features a dual-lens camera (13MP + 2MP) with BSI CMOS sensor, dual-LED flash, autofocus and 4K video recording. In the front, there's a no less impressive 8-megapixel selfies camera.

The Axon Phone features a metal/glass construction and Hi-Fi playback and recording audio technology. It's also fully compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile's LTE bands.
