54-year-old Jennifer Connell, a human resources manager living in Manhattan, New York City, blames her nephew, 12-year-old Sean Tarala, for breaking her wrist back in 2011.

The woman is determined to teach the young boy a thing or two about responsibility and so, not long ago, she filed a lawsuit against him demanding that he pay her $127,000 (€111,600) in damages.

How Jennifer Connell broke her wrist

The suit filed by 54-year-old Jennifer Connell against Sean Tarala, her 12-year-old nephew, alleges that, when she stopped by his house in 2011 to celebrate his birthday, the boy jumped a tad too eagerly into her arms.

Taken by surprise, the woman lost her balance and fell to the ground, breaking her wrist. She says that, ever since this unfortunate accident, her life hasn't been the same. Even holding a plate is too much for her these days.

“I live in Manhattan in a third-floor walk-up, so it has been very difficult,” the woman told a judge at a hearing last week. “I was at a party recently and it was difficult to hold my hors d'oeuvres plate,” she added, as cited by New York Daily News.

Sean Tarala might be a minor but, as far as Jennifer Connell is concerned, he is the only one to blame for her breaking her wrist and so he must be held accountable for his actions in front of a court of law.

“A reasonable 8-year-old under those circumstances would know or should have known that a forceful greeting such as the one delivered by the defendant to the plaintiff could cause the harms and losses suffered by the plaintiff,” the lawsuit alleges.

Young Sean Tarala is a bit confused

The only reason he jumped into his aunt's arms when she came by to celebrate his birthday together with the rest of the family was because he happens to love her very much. He never meant for her to fall and injure her wrist.

Hence, Sean Tarala doesn't quite understand why Jennifer Connell is now suing him. It might be that he was the one who caused her fall, but it was all just an accident. Other family members seem equally confused about this lawsuit, which might explain why they have so far refused to make any statements.

Update: The woman says she had to sue her nephew to collect insurance. She never meant to hurt him and she loves him dearly.
