It's a small step in the right direction for the carrier

It's been quite a long wait for AT&T customers who own the Lumia 830, as the smartphone is one of the last to receive Windows Phone 8.1 Denim update.

With just a few months left until the official release of Windows 10 Mobile, AT&T confirmed it has started to push Windows Phone 8.1 Denim to Lumia 830 devices.

This is very good news for Lumia 830 owners even though the update is not necessarily required for those who wish to upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile when the new operating system becomes available later this year.

Obviously, we don't know for sure whether or not AT&T will offer the upgrade to Lumia 830 devices, but this is a small step into the right direction.

Unfortunately, the news is rather ironic as well since Microsoft considers AT&T a premium partner, and the carrier is among the last to offer Windows Phone updates.

Hopefully, with the launch of Windows 10 Mobile and Lumia 950 smartphones in the United States, the carrier will offer major updates much faster.

And that could happen sooner than we might think since Microsoft has already confirmed that it will be the one to decide when to push Windows 10 Mobile updates in the future.

This means that carriers will continue to test these updates, but Microsoft will be the one to push them to customers when they decide they are good to go.

Anyway, those who still own the Lumia 830 and haven't yet upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile Technical Preview, should check out their smartphones for the new update.

According to AT&T, Windows Phone 8.1 Denim update for Lumia 830 should be around 540MB in size. Keep in mind though that since this is a staged rollout, it might take a few days until you are able to download and install the update.
