14 DAY TRIAL // Google has already confirmed that Asus ZenWatch 3 will be updated to Android Wear 2.0 when the new version of the smartwatch OS is released in the first quarter of 2017. However, that doesn't mean that Asus can't deliver some updates of its own.
If you own either of the two Asus smartwatches running Android Wear, the ZenWatch 2 and ZenWatch 3, then you will be pleased to know that new updates are now available for both smartwatches.
The smaller one is deployed to the Asus ZenWatch 2, which received the December 2016 security patch meant to fix some of the vulnerabilities related to smartwatches.
Every time Google releases a new monthly security update, it's not just smartphones and tablets that are getting the update, but every other device running Android or a version of it.
On the other hand, Asus ZenWatch 3 is getting a much bigger update that adds lots of new features and improvements, aside from the December security patch.
Among the most important improvements announced by Asus, it's worth mentioning the improvement of the accuracy of algorithm, as well as the stability of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections.
Also, the translations in various languages have been updated, and a notification sound has been added when the smartwatch is discharging. According to the official changelog, Asus has decided to remove the charging/discharging notification message.
The update also includes support algorithm of falling detection, but in order for that to work you will need ZenWatch Manager companion app v3.2.0.161220.
Furthermore, the update adds support for ECO mode setting in the ZenWatch 3 and “Button setting” for user customization. Last but not least, a range of new themes for the smartwatch's face have been added: Aureole, Golden Era, Silver Ribbon, Ostra, Geometry, Signature, and Cruise.
Asus already released the update in the last days of 2016, so you can check and see if it's now available for your ZenWatch 2 or 3.
