There are motherboards ready for Windows 11

Windows 11 is coming, and while it’ll be offered as a free upgrade to some computers, not all PCs currently running Windows 10 will be able to handle the new OS.

This is because Microsoft has changed the minimum system requirements, therefore making it impossible for some computers to run Windows 11.

As one of the companies whose computers need to be ready for the debut of Windows 11, ASUS has shared additional guidance on what motherboards are prepared for the new operating system, and you can see the full list in the adjacent photo.

Worth knowing is that these motherboards come with TPM 2.0, so they support Windows 11 by default, though ASUS warns that this security feature may not be enabled for everyone.

“If your existing Windows 10 PC is running the most current version of Windows 10 and meets the above minimum hardware specifications, it can be upgraded to Windows 11. Aside from system requirements, please do pay attention to the TPM settings on your motherboard. TPM is an international standard for a secure cryptoprocessor that has been around for years. However, it is disabled by default on most motherboards, and that may prevent proper installation of Windows 11,” ASUS says.

How to check if TPM 2.0 is available

If you’re not sure if your computer supports TPM 2.0 and is therefore prepared for the switch to Windows 11, you can figure this out quite fast.

All you need to do is click the Start menu and then type tpm.msc. This command should launch the Trusted Platform Module Management screen, and if TPM 2.0 is available on your device, you should see a label reading Specification Version: 2.0 in the lower right corner.

Additional instructions on how to enable the TPM on your motherboard can be found here at ASUS for each model.
