We talked about a mid-range Asus smartphone that doesn't belong to the Zenfone family earlier this month, and that is the Pegasus X5000.

The handset was spotted at TENAA at the beginning of the month, which made us believe it might be officially introduced in China very soon.

Today, a new report confirms that Asus has announced the availability of the mid-range Android smartphone in China. The handset has been released on the market as Asus Pegasus 5000, which is close to the name that was listed at TENAA.

Asus says that the Pegasus 5000 will be available for purchase in China in two variants with either 2GB or 3GB of RAM inside.

The cheaper version will cost only $200 outright whereas the 3GB RAM model is now available for purchase for $275. Customers can buy either of the two Pegasus 5000 handsets through major carrier China Telecom.

Even though Asus has not shared any details on the availability of Pegasus 5000 outside China, we suspect the mid-range smartphone will be launched in other countries in the following weeks.

Octa-core CPU and 5.5-inch FHD display

Moving on to specs, Asus Pegasus 5000 ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, along with Zen UI on top.

On the inside, the device packs a 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor, coupled with either 2GB or 3GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card slot.

The Pegasus 5000 sports a large 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution, and offers both 4G LTE and dual-SIM support.

On the back, Asus' handset features a 13-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash, and full HD (1080p) video recording, whereas, on the front, there's a secondary 5-megapixel selfie camera.

But the phone's main selling point is the massive 4,850 mAh battery inside, which should provide many days of continuous use.
