Microsoft is believed to be working on a new foldable device that would use two different displays coming together to support several form factors with the help of a revolutionary hinge.

And while this project, which many call the Surface “Phone,” is still nowhere to be seen, others are moving a bit faster. Asus, for instance, has just presented the so-called Precog, a new model which combines two different displays for an idea that’s similar to Microsoft’s.

Precog is a device that supports several form factors and whose purpose changes depending on the angle and the position of the two screens. Instead of a traditional laptop design with one screen and a keyboard, it uses two different displays, and their role is automatically adapted to their position.

For instance, Precog can be used as a regular laptop, so one screen becomes a keyboard, while with the two screens fully open, it can be a full-size tablet. Depending on the position when flat, it can also be converted to a second monitor when connected to a PC, while in tent mode, it becomes a device that you can easily draw or even watch movies on.

Andromeda OS

Needless to say, Precog comes with all kinds of super-innovative technologies to power the functionality above, including a so-called Intelligent Touch feature that makes it possible to adjust to your settings on the fly. This means the interface automatically changes based on the angle and the position of the screens.

All these features will be possible thanks to Windows 10, and this is where Andromeda OS comes into play. Microsoft’s shell coming to a potential Surface device based on this design would also be used by companies like ASUS.

No details have been provided on when Precog could make it to the market, but Asus is believed to be working with Microsoft on this project. If a new Surface mobile device from Microsoft goes live, there’s a good chance Precog gets the green light as well.
