Asus announced quite a lot of Zenfone smartphones last year and most of them have already been launched on the market. However, there's one handset in the Zenfone family that hasn't made it to shelves yet.

The Zenfone Max was announced back in August as another mid-range smartphone with great specs inside. Sadly, the device is not yet available on the market, even though it's been more than five months since its official unveiling.

The good news is Asus India announced the Zenfone Max would be launched in the country on January 4. Although India will be one of the first countries to receive the handset, we can safely assume the smartphone will be launched in other regions in the coming weeks.

There's no word on pricing yet, but we know it will be available exclusively via Flipkart for less than Rs 15,000 ($225 / €205). Even so, that will be a high price for what the smartphone has to offer.

Old chipset, but massive battery

First of all, the Zenfone Max will be powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, which is rather old for 2016. The good news is the smartphone will pack 2GB of RAM and either 8GB or 16GB of storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

Asus Zenfone Max boasts a large 5.5-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 4 coating.

Another strong point of the phone would be the 13-megapixel camera on the back that features laser autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash, and full HD (1080p) video recording. The smartphone packs a 5-megapixel camera in the front as well.

The Zenfone Max offers both 4G LTE and dual-SIM support, but also provides users with other connectivity options too, including 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0 and GPS with AGPS and GLONASS.

Asus Zenfone Max is powered by a massive 5,000 mAh non-removable battery, which hasn't been rated by the manufacturer yet. Naturally, the smartphone will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop and Asus ZenUI.
