Ubisoft and Lionsgate Pictures have shared some more information about their upcoming Assassin's Creed movie, how it will affect the video game continuity and how it might feature some characters seen in the video games, including main assassins.

The Assassin's Creed series has been around for many years now, and thanks to Ubisoft's huge number of global studios, a new title has been released every year ever since Assassin's Creed 2. At the same time, a movie based on the series has been stuck in development, as director issues and casting problems have kept it from moving forward.

Fortunately for fans, the actual film is now starting its shooting process, after confirmation of the main plot and characters was offered last week.

Thanks to a questions and answers session organized by Ubisoft on its Assassin's Creed Twitter account, even more information is available about the movie and how it relates to the video games.

First up, protagonist Michael Fassbender will bring to life Callum Lynch in the present day, and thanks to a new version of the Animus system, he'll also get to experience the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th century Spain.

The full list of actors will be revealed in the near future, but for now, only Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams, and Ariane Labed have been confirmed.

A lot of the action takes place in the modern day, and Callum will be a different type of protagonist as opposed to Desmond, for example. While the story is mostly separate from the video games, the main villain - Abstergo - will appear.

The overall plot is going to impact the stories seen in future games, books, or comics, according to Ubisoft, and there's even a chance to see some video game characters during some sequences.

The Assassin's Creed movie is set to appear in December of 2016, so expect more information to arrive in the next 15 months.
