There’s a lot going on in the Apple world these hours, and the closer we get to the September 10 iPhone launch event, the higher the excitement goes.

New information that made the rounds today provides us with another look at the 2019 iPhone lineup, this time from a naming perspective.

The names of the new iPhones have leaked several times throughout the year, but we still don’t know for sure what exactly they are going to be called when Apple announces them later today.

The very first rumors that reached the web so many months ago pointed to a lineup comprising an iPhone XI, an iPhone XI Max, and an iPhone XI R, while the series then evolved to names like iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Hello, iPhone Pro!

And today, information posted by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg indicates that Apple plans to call these models iPhone 11, iPhone Pro, and iPhone Pro Max.

In other words, Apple is giving up on the numbering system for the XS and XS Max successors, but continues to use it for the XR replacement. At first glance, it just looks like the iPhone 11 name sets it apart from the rest of the lineup, which might not be exactly what Apple is aiming for, so a more simplified approach, with this device being called just iPhone, could be the right way to go.

On the other hand, Apple might embrace this idea in 2020 when the iPhone XR replacement will make the switch from LCD to OLED as well. The 2019 iPhone XR successor will continue to use LCD.

The final naming details will be announced by Apple in just a few hours, but for now, the Pro tag is all but confirmed. It remains to be seen, however, if the numbering system is indeed ditched or not.
