It will be released with Android 5.1 Lollipop onboard

French company Archos has been getting ahead of other big smartphone makers in the last few years and announced a new device before MWC 2016.

Although the new Archos 50d Oxygen has been officially introduced today, the handset won't make it to market until May. The mid-range Android smartphone will be available for purchase all over Europe for just £130 (€165 / $185) outright.

However, those who visit MWC this year will be able to see the Archos 50d Oxygen since the French company confirmed it would showcase the smartphone at the trade fair between February 22-25.

Spec-wise, Archos 50d Oxygen is far from impressive, but it does come with decent features for the price. As mentioned earlier, the smartphone will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, and since Archos does not mention anything about a Marshmallow upgrade, we must assume it won't be available.

Dual-SIM support and 4G LTE connectivity make it attractive

Under the hood, the 50d Oxygen comes equipped with a 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor, coupled with a Mali-T720 graphics processing unit, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

Just like most Archos smartphones, this one offers dual-SIM support (microSIM / miniSIM), but 4G LTE is included as well. It also sports a 5-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.

Archos 50d Oxygen comes with a decent 13-megapixel rear-facing camera that features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, but it also packs a 5-megapixel selfie camera in the front.

Last but not least, Archos 50d Oxygen is powered by a 2,100 mAh battery and offers various connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0 and GPS with AGPS support (sorry, no NFC).
