GNU/Linux developer Arne Exton is known for all sort of distributions, most of which are derivatives of some of the most popular Linux-based operating systems, and he informs us this weekend about the availability of a new build of his ArchEX distro.

ArchEX is an Arch Linux-based distribution built around the lightweight LXQt desktop environment. The new things implemented in ArchEX Build 170318 is the recently released Linux 4.10.3 kernel, as well as all the latest package versions that have been released on the official Arch Linux repositories.

"ArchEX 64-bit is a new (170318) Linux live DVD based on Arch Linux. Arch motto is KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)," said Arne Exton. "LXQt is a lightweight Qt desktop environment. It will not get in your way. It will not hang or slow down your system. It is focused on being a classic desktop with a modern look and feel."

The Live ISO image supports only 64-bit PCs

Among the apps shipped with ArchEX Build 170318, we can mention the Mozilla Firefox web browser, GIMP image editor, Wicd network manager, Gparted partition editor, and GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) if you fancy compiling software from sources. You can study the full list of pre-installed packages if you're curious to know what's included in ArchEX.

From the gallery attached below, it would appear that the ArchEX Live ISO image supports both 32-bit and only 64-bit PCs, and it can be easily installed on your personal computers if you decide that ArchEX is good enough to become your daily driver. It even ships with its own installer, so you can install it while running ArchEX live.

The developer believes that Arch Linux is the operating system designed for the advanced Linux user/enthusiast, but his ArchEX distribution is a lot easier to install and runs much faster thanks to the LXQt desktop environment. You can download ArchEX Build 170318 right now from our website if you want to take it for a test drive.
