Two of the four new iPhones will sport punch-hole screen

Apple is almost certainly giving up on the notch on at least two new iPhones launching this year, as the Cupertino-based tech giant is introducing a punch-hole display.

This is an approach we’ve kept hearing lately, and now Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reiterates the same thing, explaining that Apple is indeed working on bringing a punch-hole screen on the iPhone 14.

No further specifics have been shared, but we already know how Apple wants to make this change.

Four new iPhones going live this year

Apple’s iPhone 14 lineup will include four separate models, just like the iPhone 13. However, the company will operate several changes, including the demise of the iPhone mini.

2021 was therefore the last refresh of the iPhone mini, with Apple now planning to abandon the 5.4-inch form factor. The only small iPhone will continue to be the iPhone SE, which will be getting a refresh this year.

The main iPhone lineup, however, will witness the introduction of a new standard iPhone, this time with a larger screen. It’ll be called Max, just like the Pro, though it’ll come with nearly the same capabilities as the cheapest 6.1-inch model.

According to people familiar with the matter, the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max will sport a notch, just like the current models. The 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and the 6.7-inch iPhone Pro Max will kill it off and will come with the punch-hole screen that Gurman is also talking about.

There’s also a chance Apple also reintroduces Touch ID, especially as it’s now embedding some front-facing parts, such as the Face ID camera, into the screen. However, the fingerprint scanner might not return until next year, of course, if everything goes according to the plan.
