Apple is reportedly working on introducing a number of health features to the Apple Watch, including a new glucose monitoring feature and interchangeable smart bands. BCR suggests that the features will arrive soon, as they were rumored in the past as well.

The report mentions the fact that the glucose technology will be non-invasive, as glucose levels are typically determined by collecting blood, which wouldn’t be possible with a smartwatch. In addition, previous rumors did suggest that Apple would be using non-invasive methods to determine glucose levels of users wearing the Apple Watch.

The glucose monitoring system would be built inside the Apple Watch, which would allow Apple to receive approval from US authorities, like the Food and Drug Administration, while also maintaining the Apple Watch design. Moreover, some rumors suggested that Apple could also add smart bands that would allow users to expand the battery life on the Apple Watch device or even capture images with a camera.

Apple Watch Series 3 could arrive later this year

The source also stated that Apple identified a number of new functionalities that it could add to Apple Watch devices, including lots of new features for analyzing data related to the health of the user. This could also include sleep monitoring, as the Cupertino-based company recently acquired Beddit Sleep Monitor, an app and sleep system that’s designed to monitor daily sleep behaviors through the iPhone. Such a feature could come built-in in new iPhones and even Apple Watches.

Apple’s Watch devices have been mainly marketed as fitness devices, as they come with waterproof features, as well as GPS for monitoring a wide range of activities. But the health tracking feature mainly collects data from motion and heart rate, while it remains to be seen how it will actually determine the glucose level, without drawing blood from the user.

Apple Watch Series 3 is expected to arrive later this year and is said to come with a number of other features, including LTE support.
